What is Elmhurst?

Elmhurst is a plant-based beverage company that uses an innovative cold milling process that allows us to produce a delicious, whole food, non-dairy milk that contains all of the nutrition of whole nuts with a superior creamy texture without ever using industrial fillers, stabilizers or gums.

Are Elmhurst nutmilks an eco-friendly choice?

Yes on three counts. First, nutmilks use approximately two thirds less water than traditional dairy.  It takes approximately 60 gallons of water to produce just 1 glass of traditional dairy. That is a lot of water! Second, we use packaging that is made out of sustainable materials and is FSC certified. Third, our innovative process allows for safe consumption over longer periods producing a superior, longer shelf life without the need for refrigeration before opening. So less waste!

Who came up with Elmhurst’s nutmilks?

Dr. Cheryl Mitchell brought both her love of making superior plant-based beverages and her innovative cold milling process to our company. With her guidance our team has been able to produce a delicious and nutritious line of nutmilks.

ALLERGIES, DIETARY RESTRICTIONS AND SAFETY

Are we top 8 allergen free?

No. All of our products contain Tree Nuts which are on the Big 8 List.

Elmhurst nutmilks are free of the other top 7 allergens, including Dairy, Eggs, Soy, Peanuts, as well as gluten. We do share facilities with soy and dairy products, however our production facilities use protocols compliant with FDA guidelines to prevent cross-contamination.

What are the ingredients in Elmhurst nutmilks?

Where does Elmhurst get its nuts?

We get our nuts from three locations.
Almonds: California, USA
Cashews: Brazil (cashews aren’t grown in large quantities in the US)
Hazelnuts: Oregon, USA
Walnuts: California, USA

Are Elmhurst nutmilks organic?

No.

Do Elmhurst nutmilks contain any genetically modified (GMO) ingredients in its products?

Nope! All ingredients in Elmhurst are GMO free.

Do Elmhurst nutmilks contain carrageenan?

Nope, not ever.

Are Elmhurst nutmilks pasteurized?

Yes, our California almonds are pasteurized to comply with FDA regulations and recommendation from food safety experts.

Do Elmhurst nutmilks contain caffeine?

Nope!

What types of sweeteners do you use?

We use cane sugar.

What do we do with the bi-product and leftover product?

The main byproduct from our nutmilk production process is nut fiber, which is not wasted and is instead used as an ingredient in nutritional bars and vitamin capsules.

What is in your natural flavors?

The natural flavors we use in our nutmilks are a proprietary blend of natural food materials, like essences, extracts and other natural components. We add these proprietary natural flavors to create the best flavor and texture in our nutmilks. The natural flavors that we use are in compliance with the FDA and only use GRAS (Generally Recognized as Safe) ingredients. We strive to create healthy & safe quality nutmilks as indicated by our Globally Recognized SQF (Safe Quality Food) level 3 certification.

PACKAGING, STORAGE, AND FRESHNESS

How long do Elmhurst nutmilks stay fresh?

As an Extended Shelf Life product, our nutmilks will stay fresh in your refrigerator until the date printed on the bottle. This is usually 6 months. Once opened, they will need to be consumed within 7-10 days.

Can I freeze Elmhurst nutmilks?

We do not recommend freezing our nutmilks. While freezing will not affect the safety or nutritional value of the product, it could change texture once it thaws. You can use our nutmilks in frozen desserts or smoothies.

Your packaging is unique! Why did you choose this design?

We chose this packaging because it is renewable, sustainable, FSC Certified and fully recyclable. Our packaging generates 41% less CO2 than disposable PET (plastic) bottles, and 75% less CO2 than glass, creating a much lower carbon footprint.

Is your packaging recyclable?

Yes, our packaging can be fully recycled, even the cap! It is compatible with all national recycling and waste management systems. And it can be recycled as a single unit, no need to take off the cap.

USES AND COOKING

How can I use Elmhurst nutmilks?

Elmhurst nutmilks can be used on their own, in cereal, in your coffee or tea, and as a replacement for dairy, soy, or pea milk in cooking. Elmhurst nutmilks are great for cooking and you can use the same amount of Elmhurst nutmilks in recipes as you would dairy milk. We are high in protein and low in sugar, so pour a cup and enjoy it as a snack! Check out our recipe page for a full variety of fun cooking ideas.

Can I put Elmhurst nutmilks in my coffee or tea?

Yep! Hazelnut and cashew work best. It will add extra creaminess because of its rich and full body.

Does your product steam or foam?

Yep! Our high levels of protein make our nutmilks excellent for your lattes and cappuccinos. You can even steam it cold. We recommend the spoon test – you can stick a spoon in our foam and it will stand upright!

PRODUCT SEPARATION

Why does your product separate?

Separation is natural! Think back to traditional milk that still had cream on the top. Our product separates after sitting for a length of time because we’ve made the promise to our customers to never use industrial emulsifiers, gums or stabilizers in our nut milks. Give it a good shake and have a glass.

Why are there white flecks in your drink?

We never use industrial stabilizers, because of this you may occasionally see white flecks in your nut milks. Don’t worry! These flecks are the natural good fats from the nuts. When refrigerated, fat tends to thicken, creating a slightly different consistency from the rest. We believe a few flecks are way better than adding controversial industrial fillers to create a homogenous product.

Why are your nut milks not pristine white?

Our nutmilks represent the natural color of the nuts when they are cold milled. Each of our nutmilks is a slightly different shade of white because each of them is made with different nuts. The raw nuts aren’t bright white, so why should our nutmilks be?

Do you ship to the United States?

Yep! We currently ship to the United States, including Alaska and Hawaii.

Do you ship to Canada?

No, we currently do not ship to Canada but we are planning on doing so soon. Please check back for updates or consider subscribing to our newsletter to keep updated.

Do you ship internationally?

No, unfortunately not at this time.

How do I track my package?

When you place your order you will receive a tracking number by email from our sales team. Please use that tracking number to reference the carrier’s delivery schedule.

How do I return my order?

What if my product was damaged upon delivery?

We are sorry for the inconvenience. Simply call our Customer Support team at 1-888-ELM-1925 or email us here and we will fix the problem. We’ll work with you to make sure you can enjoy our delicious nutmilks as soon as possible.

How do I join your Monthly Nutmilk Delivery?

It’s easy! Follow the three steps below and you will be on your way to having delicious nutmilks delivered to your door every month.

  1. Click on the product you’d like to order.
  2. Next choose the “Monthly Recurring” option located on the right side of the product pop-up. Pick your quantity and add it to your cart. Your Monthly Nutmilk Delivery item will be identified with the text “recurring” next to the item in your shopping cart.
  3. Then, follow the guided steps to set up your delivery schedule, shipping address, and payment method.
How do I select the Monthly Nutmilk Delivery option for individual products?

Eligible products will display as recurring products on the product page. Simply select the box, choose the item, and add it to a new or existing recurring order. Then, follow the guided steps to set up your delivery schedule, shipping address, and payment method.
